No-one wants to feel stressed, particularly if you have already looked at the Effects of Stress on the body. Stress is a part of normal life. Our definition of stress is:

‘The energy of thought created to enable action’

Using this definition you can understand why stress is both useful and in some cases necessary. If you are lying in bed thinking ‘I must get up now, I need to get ready for work’. The energy created by this thought will enable you to get up and get ready, often even when you are very tired. If you have a deadline to achieve, the energy created by the thoughts will keep reminding you that there is an amount of work to be completed by a certain time. If you were to be in danger or needed to be somewhere very quickly, the thoughts in your mind would indicate the need for more ‘fuel’ to be injected quickly into the systems and you would be able to move quickly.

Our Treatment

We offer a combination of techiques including Hypnotherapy, NLP and TFT.  These modern effective techniques present us with a way to resolve and change the 'thinking' that leads to stress.  Stress or rather negative stress is not a requirement based on our experience rather its caused by the way we channel our thoughts and in what way we are presenting ourselves with ideas, situations or experiences.

Positive Stress

Amazing feats have been reported by individuals who have increased physical strength beyond their abilities, simply because they created a thought that suggested something needed doing. There are two important elements to be aware of with this example of positive stress, using an example of a woman of average build, lifting a car from a child after an accident (fact). 1) the individual created the necessary thought to achieve their goal which included urgency and strength 2) she had to believe it was possible to lift the car or she would not have attempted to do so.

This fantastic example which is a true event, highlights how powerful our body is and indeed our mind! The mind and our beliefs are an important factor in understanding stress and the effects of stress.

Negative Stress

We must become more aware of our own internal dialogue to really understand why we are stressed and/or suffering the effects of stress. If you have become aware that you show any signs of stress, highlighted in the [effects of stress on the body], then you should begin to consider listening to your inner voice. If you spend one day, tracking thoughts, listening, perhaps noting down some common themes, you may no longer be surprised that you are experiencing the symptoms you do. Look for instructions to your body; eg ‘I am never going to have time to do this’ – (unconscious fear of repercussions of not achieving the deadline); ‘he/she will kill me if I am late’ – (unconscious fear of upsetting others and being rejected, plus the word ‘kill’ is a misused word but to the mind/body it is registered as a threat). Be cautious of statements like this ‘you are going to be the death of me’ and ‘this is killing me’.

Worry

Worry is low level stress in that it exists within the mind at an unconscious level. You may not be aware of how much you worry or what you are worrying about, be aware that low level stress over an extended period of time is much more harmful than a period of obvious stress caused by circumstances. There are ongoing affects to your body caused by this low level stress and you may already be experiencing some of them.

Types of stress

Perception stress

This type of stress is caused by a belief system and life experiences. If someone is dealing with a lot of stress in life, then they have a minor confrontation, there is a tendency to overreact. Stress will cause an individual to become oversensitive and less able to deal normally with daily stresses. Our specialised techniques help to improve confidence and relieve stress.

Situation stress

This type of stress relates to the event or situation that seems to be causing the increase in stress. Deadlines, a relationship that isn’t working, a house that isn’t close enough to work or family, financial concerns, children, etc the list is endless. Changing the situation isn’t always possible or necessary, empowerment is more useful.

Uncontrollable factors

Clearly there are experiences that are out of our control and are considered normal in life, however, these can cause extreme stress. Death, redundancy, illness, moving house etc. Our services are offered to individuals to increase their sense of being in control or to move towards acceptance.
